The chart illustrates the rate of businesses buying e-commerce products by industry in Canada from 2015 to 2019.
Generally speaking, all five categories recorded a jump in proportion throughout the period. In addition, information and communication products were the most popular among corporations’ expenditure.
Looking closer at the chart, a third of companies were online consumers of either manufacturing and retail products. The percentage for both these categories then rose exponentially throughout the period, finishing 2019 at 59% and 56% respectively. Meanwhile, figures for communication rocketed steadily from 23% in the starting to 55% in 2019.
Wholesale goods witnessed a less sharp rise than that of communication but nevertheless stayed consistently on the rise throughout the five years shown. Two out of five companies purchased this type of good in 2015, whereas roughly 22% more followed suit in the last year. Finally, slight fluctuations were observed in expenditure for information and communications, with the total ultimately ending up near the 70% mark in 2019.
