The bar graph gives information on the proportion of total world production by Asia, Europe and other countries of the world between 1840 and 2000.
Overall, throughout the period, the percentage share of total production in Asia and Europe registered a downward trend albeit at varying degrees, while the opposite was true for the other parts of the world, whose share of total production experienced an upward trend. It was Asia that was the dominant of total production both at the start and the end of the period.
With regard to the categories which saw drop, the percentage of total world production in Asia stood at 50%, emerging as the leading territory at the beginning of the period. However, this was followed by a marked decrease, dropping to 20% in 1880. A figure that then witnessed a significant increase, reaching 40% in the last year, finishing the period as a predominant one among the others. Meanwhile, starting at 40% in the initial year, the percentage of total world production in Europe rose considerably by 10% in 1920 prior to falling to about 25%, recording the lowest share.
Turning to the other parts of countries that observed an increase, the percentage share of total world production in the remaining parts of the world which accounted for 10% in 1880, becoming the smallest share, grew consistently, reaching its high of 40% in 1960 but this was followed by a moderate dip to around 32% in the last year.
