In 2010, the majority of the spending was done on food and clothes, accounting for $3700 and $2500 billions. The expenses incurred on smartphones and toiletries were quite close to each other and recorded $3900 altogether, while books attracted the least sum of money, only $1000 millions.
In 2014, the expenditure on food continued to be the highest, with a rise to $4400 millions, whereas smartphones replaced clothes in becoming the second most popular commodity involving huge expenses, which amounted to around $2700 millions. The toiletries also experienced a slight rise of $100 millions, conversely books noticed a further decline and dropped to 50% of the amount incurred previously.
