It is apparent that the expenditure on groceries was the highest throughout the period, rising from approximately 72 billion US dollars in 2000 to just under 90 billion in 2003. After peaking at just over 90 billion in the following year, this expense had declined continuously back to the 2000 figure by 2007.
In addition, spending on electricity was rose steadily from roughly 38 billion to just over 60 billion at the end of the period given, though the growth slowed over the last two years. There was a dramatic increase in the spending on the Internet from approximately 2 billion to just over 45 billion in 2007. This climb was particularly noticeable between 2004 and 2007.
Overall, it can be seen from the chart that the expenditure on the groceries was still highest in 2007. Moreover, the gap between three cagtegories had narrowed considerably over the second half of the period shown in question.
