The bar chart illustrates how much waste was discharged through landfill, burning, and ocean dumping in one European country from 2005 to 2008 over one-year intervals.
Overall, while the number of landfill disposal witnessed a downward trend, the opposite pattern was seen in burning activities. Additionally, the figure for waste dumped at sea remained stable over the period.
As can be seen from the chart, there was a significant decline in the quantity of litter discarded via landfill from 1800 million tonnes in 2005 to about two-thirds of that amount one year later. This category then experienced a decrease of 300 million tonnes annually before ending the period at only 600 million tonnes
In contrast, starting at the lowest rate of roughly 500 million tonnes, the amount of waste disposal through burning activity documented a constant increase, taking this category to the first place at over 900 million tonnes in 2008. In addition, some fluctuations were recorded in the figure for marine waste before it reached at slightly less than the original amount (approximately 590 million tonnes) in 2008.
