Overall, it can be seen that football was the favourite sport among the six disciplines in the UK in all three years. In contrast, tennis was the least popular sport among those reported.
With regards to strongly favoured sports, football and rugby had an upward trend from 1995 to 2005. The proportion of people who interested in football increased slightly from 42% in 1995 to 44% in 2005, whereas that of rugby rose moderately from 23% in 1995 to 27% in 2005. Besides, there were more people who liked swimming in 2000 than in 1995 with a rapid growth of 7%.
The percentage of people who loved snooker and golf fluctuated between 1995 and 2005. There was a sharp decrease of nearly 9% of people who showed interest in snooker from 1995 to 2000. However, the percentage grew up by 2% from 2000 to 2005. It is noticeable that golf was attracted by almost the same number of people with a small fluctuation within 2%. Tennis was the second favourite sport in 1995 with 29% of fans. Nevertheless, its popularity dropped by 7% in the second two years.
