The given graph shows the proportion of people in relation to each household in the UK in the years 1981 and 2001.
Overall, while more people lived as more extended communities in accommodations in 1981, two decades later, these numbers of individuals per house decreased noticeably.
In both years, in 1981 and 2001, the large majority of people shared a house with another person, settling at 31% and 34% respectively. By 1981, the percentage of people living alone comprised around two-fifth, namely, 17%, while that of households in 2001 constituted nearly a quarter (26%). Followed by this, in 1981, the proportion of unities with 3 persons showed one-fifth (20%). However, at the beginning of a new millennium, it declined by 3 percent.
As for the share of households including larger numbers of people, they also experienced a downward trend. In line with this, 18% of houses consisted of 4 persons in 1981, whereas it dropped to 15% twenty years later. Although the proportion of houses, which included 6 people, accounted for 6 percent in 1981, this demonstrated mere 2% in 2001.
