To begin with, action films were the most popular genre in the year 2018. Around 45 million men watched them, while about 30 million women also visited for this genre. Romcoms were the second most popular, especially among women. Around 35 million women prefer romantic comedies, compered to 30 million men. In fact, historical drama was more popular among women than men with a noticeable gap. The least popular genre is westem and for both genders. Under 10 million people in each group. Looking at age, the biggest group of cinemagoers were people aged 26–44, taking 38%. The second largest group was 18-25 years old (31%), next, people aged 45-55 (25%). Only 6% of people were 56 and over. Consequently, older people rarely went to the cinema.
In conclusion, action films were the top choice, especially among men, while romantic comedies and dramas were more popular with women. Most people who go to the cinema are young or middle-aged adults.
