The pie charts compare the sales of an author in terms of five genres, in the years of 1970, 1997 and in 2012.
Overall, the sales of adults and children’s fiction experienced an upward trend, while the reverse was true for others, biography and travel. It is worth mentioning that adult fiction was leading genre, whereas biography was at the lower end of the spectrum.
Focusing on more pronounced genres, the figure for adult fiction started at one-fifth, and this was followed by a negligible increase by 5% in 1992. There was a significant growth to 45%, becoming by far the most purchased genre by 2012, surpassing all tis counterparts. Likewise, children’s fiction stood at 20% initially, a figure that then rose by 2%, and by 2012, reached one-forth.
Turning to remaining type of genres, which had the lowest sales ratel. The percentage of sales for others and biography accounted for 25% and 20%, respectively. Between 1992 and 2012, its rates observed a significant decline from 20% to 12% for the former, and from 15% to 8% for the latter. In contrast, starting at 15%, the book related to travel genre saw an improvement to 18%, before dropping to 10% at the end of the period.
