The line chart provides the percentage of four different types of place in Scotland, including aquarium, castle, zoo and festival were welcomed visitors over a 30 years period starting from 1980.
Looking from an overall perspective, it is readily apparent that castles and zoos were two attractions that its figures increased, the opposite was true for the number of tourists who choose aquariums and festivals. It is notable that zoos were the most unattractive place in Scotland during the period.
In 1980, the figure for castles accounted for nearly 25% of the total visitors, in compared with only 10% people choosing zoos for their visiting. The percentage of castles tourists increased dramatically and reached the peak of 45% after 15 years, in 1995. Since then, castles experienced a gradual drop during 15 years and fell to 35% in 2010. Meanwhile, the number of zoos visitors witnessed some minor fluctuation from 1985 to 2000, at around 10% to 15%. After that, the figure for zoos went up significantly during 10 years, at over 20% in 2010.
In terms of aquariums and festivals, while festivals were the places that most people chose when visited Scotland, at 30% in 1980, the percentage of aquariums tourists was 20%. 35% is the highest point that aquariums received after 5 years before returning to their starting point in 1990. After that, the number of visitors who choose aquariums decreased sharply and hit a trough of 10% in 2010. Also, the percentage of festivals visitors experienced a moderate decrease, fell by around 10% during a period of 30 years and ended up at over 20% in 2010.
