Both two charts illustrate the percentage of energy produced from five different sources in Country X in 2000 and 2020. Overall, coal was the dominant source in 2000, however its share declined significantly by 2020, when renewable energy and natural gas became the leading sources.
In 2000, coal accounted for the largest share of energy production at 45%, followed by natural gas at 25% and nuclear at 20%. Renewable energy and other sources represented the smallest proportions, each contributing only 5%. The gap between the highest and lowest sources stood at 40 percentage points.
By 2020, there was a notable shift towards cleaner energy sources. Renewable energy rose dramatically from 5% to 30%, an increase of 25 percentage points, while natural gas increased slightly from 25% to 30%, making both the leading sources of energy production. In contrast, coal declined significantly from 45% to 20%, and nuclear fell from 20% to 15%, representing the lowest share in 2020. Other sources remained unchanged at 5% throughout the entire period.
