The pie charts compare the proportions of students who used five modes of transport to commute to university in the UK and USA between 2010 and 2015.
Overall, the proportions of students travelling by car, bicycle, and on foot increased throught the period, while the use of buses and taxis declined sharply in both countries in the given years.
In terms of travelling, in 2010, bus travelers in the UK and USA accounted for 33% and 27% respectively, declining to 26% and 24% by 2015. Similarly, the percentage of students using taxis declined, with figures dropping from 8% to 4% in the UK and from 8% to 10% in the USA.
For the remaining transports, car travel rose from 27% to 31% in the UK and from 29% to 35% in the USA. In the same way, walking also became more common, climbing to 18% from 15% and to 11% from 10% in the two countries, accordingly, whereas bicycle use showed a similar upward movement.
