Overall, the percentages of Welfare and Interest on borrowing rose, whereas the other five categories decreased. Meanwhile, the figures for Pensions and Other remained unchanged.
Education started at 24% in 2010 and decreased by 3% in 2015, making it the field in which the government spent the largest amount of money in both years. Healthcare stood at 21% in 2010 and dropped roughly 1% in 2015. Defense and Transport also saw decreases, from 17% and 3% in 2010 to 14% and 1% in 2015, respectively. The last sector to experience a decline was Culture and Leisure, and its figure fell to the same level as Transport.
Regarding increases, the percentage of expenditure on Welfare began at 8% in the initial period and grew slightly to 13% in 2015. Interest on Borrowing accounted for just 5% in 2010, a figure that doubled in 2015. Finally, the other two trends remained stable, at 19% and 1%.
