The line graphs illustrate the proportion of houses with electrical appliances including washing machine, refrigerator, and vacuum cleaner, and number of hours that is spent on doing housework during 1920 to 2019.
It is clear that, as households attempt to utilize electrical appliances, the amount of time spent doing housework had been dramatically reduced. Additionally, both refrigerator and vacuum cleaner seems to have the same pattern, however, the usage of washing machine did not change considerably.
Between 1920 to 1980, the proportion of houses with usage of refrigerator and vacuum cleaner had significantly increased from 0% to 100%, and 30% to 90%, respectively. By 2000, almost 100% of households were provided with vacuum cleaner. In contrast, the percentage of households with use of washing machine had slightly changed from 40% to almost 70% from 1920 to 2019.
Followed by a rise in houses provided by electrical machines, the amount of time spent on doing housework including washing clothes, preparing meals, and cleaning has substantially fell from 50% in 1920 to 20% in 1960. However, in the following years, there was a slowly decline from 20% to nearly 10% in 2019.
