The line graph present proportion of households with electrical furniture and number of housework hours spent by people from 1920 to 2019.
Overall, proportion of all appliances were increasing, and amount of time spent on housework weekly by individuals were declining significantly over the 98-year period. Washing machine had the lowest increase compared to the other appliances.
Looking at first chart, in 1920, although the percentage of residents who had washing machine and vacuum cleaner were around 40 and 30 percent respectively, the proportion of individuals who had refrigerators was about zero percent. Using refrigerators had sharpest increase and it reached to 100 % of residents by 1980. Following this, vacuum cleaner usage increase significantly and rise from 30 % in 1920 to 100% around 2000. The proportion of people who used washing machine had the lower increase compared to other appliances and had reached to just over 70% by 2019.
Regarding to the second line graph, people spent 50 hours weekly on housework in 1920. The figures had decreased steadily by 1980 and had reached to just over 15. After that it was plateau in following 20-year period. Finally, it had reached to just over 10 by 2019.
