Overall, the number of hours of housework per week experienced a significant decline throughout the period. Initially, vacuum cleaner outnumbered the other two, but it was reversed at the end of the period.
The amount of time spent doing housework in households was 50 hours per week at first , it then dwindled to 20 hours by 1960, and continued to decline until 2019. Refrigerators were rarely used in 1920 with the figure approximately above zero. It soared dramatically from 1920 to 1960, then reached a plateau with 100 percent of users after its slight increase in 1980. Vacuum cleaner accounted for 30 percent of household at the beginning. Numbers rose steadily and remained 100 percent after 2000. Washing machine was used by 40 percent of households in 1920. It rose to the equal number with vacuum cleaner in 1960, and kept its trend except a dip in 1980.
