The charts provide information about the distribution of time by gender in leisure and household activities in the UK in 2008.
Overall, men spent more time on most entertainment activities than women, while the opposite was true for women in household tasks. It is also noteworthy that for both genders, watching TV, video, and radio is the most popular activities in their leisure time, whereas cooking and washing were two chores that took up the most time.
As can be seen from the table, both genders preferred watching TV, video, and radio rather than reading or playing sports in their free time, with men delicating around 137 minutes, 20 minutes higher than women. Men also participated in playing sports, averaging 15 minutes compared to 14 minutes surveying in women. Reading is the only activity which had the time range nearly equal, with men at 18 minutes and women’s 19 minutes.
In terms of the bar chart women spend double their time on cooking and washing compared to their counterparts, with approximately 75 minutes per day. In shopping, clothes washing and ironing, women’s time ranged from 30 to 35 minutes, while men’s was 25 minutes and 10 minutes respectively. Conversely, men spent almost 20 minutes daily on repairing, doubling the time women allocated to this task.
