The given pie charts illustrate the market shares of three computer operating systems as well as other systems over a period of four years starting from 2012. Overall, it can be seen that while the popularity of others declined considerably throughout the period, OS1 followed the opposite trend and became the dominant operating system at the end of the period. Meanwhile, OS3 remained relatively stable despite some minor fluctuations, OS3 showed a gradual increase. Additionally, OS1 and Others accounted for the lion’s share of the market during the period.
Regarding OS 1 and Others, both represented substantial proportions of the market. In 2012, Others held the leading position among all computer operating systems, at 48%, compared to just 20% in OS1. However, there was a dramatic decline in the figure for Others at 35% in 2013, which was exceeded by their OS1 counterpart at 38% in the same year. Following a significant decrease to just 23% in 2014, the market share of Others dropped sharply to 15% in 2015. In contrast, having grown to 47% in 2014, OS 1 accounted for 52% in the final year, representing the largest share of market.
With regard to the remaining categories, all of them accounted for marginal proportions of total. OS 2 and OS 3 comprised relatively average percentages in 2013, at 15% and 17% respectively. Then, while OS2 showed a minor decrease in the market share to 10%, the corresponding proportion for OS 3 remained unchanged until 2013. Subsequently, the share of OS 3 rose to 18% in 2014 and leveled off until 2015, while recoveries were observed in the ratio of OS2 market share to 12% in 2014 and 15% in the last year.
