The chart compares the world market share of three computer operating systems – OS1, OS2, and OS3, to others between 2012 and 2015.
Overall, the worldwide market share of OS1 increased dramatically, becoming the most popular operating system, while the reverse was true for others, which showed a sharp decline from the highest to the lowest. By contrast, the percentages of OS2 and OS3 almost remained unchanged, with the latter witnessing a slight rise.
In 2012, unspecified computer operating systems accounted for almost half of the global market share, at 47%, while OS1, OS2, and OS3 witnessed almost similar percentages, 20%, 17%, 15%, respectively. By 2013, the share of OS1 rose significantly to 38%, and overtook the others, which showed a drop to 35%. There was a slight drop in the percentage of OS3 to 10%, whereas the share of OS2 remained unchanged.
Regarding the last two years, the global market share of OS1 continued to grow, increasing to 47% in 2014, after which it further rose, reaching the highest, 52%, in 2015. Meanwhile, the proportion of unknown operating systems consistently decreased, witnessing the same percentages with OS3, 15%, in the final year. Additionally, the market share of OS2 increased by 1%, eventually becoming the second most commonly used operating system by the end of the period.
