The two bar charts compare the number of students admitted to six popular university courses in the UK in 2007 and 2014.
Overall, Nursing experienced a dramatic increase and became the most popular course in 2014, overtaking Law, which was the leading subject in 2007. In contrast, most other courses illustrated relatively small changes over the given period.
In 2007, Law attracted the highest number of admissions, with around 90,000 students. Psychology ranked second at about 80,000, followed by Preclinical Medicine and Design, both about 70,000. Nursing and Computer Science were less popular, recording approximately 60,000 and 55,000 admissions, respectively.
In 2014, Nursing had risen sharply to around 240,000 admissions, making it by far the most chosen subject. Psychology and Law came next, each enrolling just over 100,000 students. Meanwhile, Design, Pre-clinical Medicine, and Computer Science had lower but similar numbers, ranging between 70,000 and 80,000.
