The bar charts below portray the number of people engaged in sailing and basketball in Australia with each group categorized according to their ages. Overall, men of all ages occupy themselves with both activities significantly more than women do. It appears that the older the participants are, the more they are attracted by sailing. Basketball, on the other hand, sees a reverse trend with the number of members in inverse proportion to their ages.
A closer look reveals that people between the age 15-24 are least interested in sailing with approximately 5000 male partakers, almost double of its female counterparts. Although sailing has an upward trend in accordance to the participants’ age, the age group of 25-34 is an exception. It has the total members of about 24000 with the number of men also doubles women. Same ratio applies to the following age group, 35-44. 45 and over is where the peak is reached with almost 20000 male participants, tripling the number of women. All of those mentioned above bring the total men and women up to 50000 and 22000, respectively.
Turning to basketball, people at the age between 15-24 account for the majority of players with the total of around 70000, with male also play twice as much as women. The age groups 25-34 and 35-44 see slight differences between male and female, totaling at 50000 and 35000 respectively. Finally, the last age group reaches the trough at less than 10000 partakers with male also twice as many as women
