Overall, the food industry maintained its predominant role in water consumption, while the figures for household use and service industry increased. Notably, the building industry saw a decrease over the decade.
In 1997, the food industry accounted for the highest percentage of water utilization (48%). This was distantly followed by household use at 19%. The manufacturing and service industries showed a relatively comparable proportion of water consumption, with respective figures of 15% and 13%. The building used just 5% of the total water, which was the least among other industries.
Regarding water use in 2007, the food industry remained at the top, slightly decreasing to 41%. A quarter of the whole water was consumed by the service industry.
The manufacturing and building industry slightly minimized the utilization of water by using 11% and 2%. In contrast, water used for domestic use grew to 21%.
