In 1997, most sectors had a higher value than in 2007, only in the manufacturing sector was the value lower. In 1997, the food industry was the largest consumer of water at 48%, followed by household use 19%. Manufacturing, the service industry, and the building industry used 13%,15%, and 5%, respectively.
A decade later, in 2007, the food industry remain the largest user 41%, while household usage slightly increased to 21%. Manufacturing kept rising to 25%, while services a slight fall to11%. The building industry’s water use went down to 2% and it’s almost halved compared to1997.
So, from 1997 to 2007, water usage in Sydney changed. While most of the consumption in both years belonged to the food industry, water consumption in the production sector has improved further in the following years, namely in 2007.
