Overall, the main purpose in six areas is agricultural use, while the percentage for the other two purposes is variable.
In terms of water usage for agricultural purposes, Central Asia, Africa, and South East Asia are the top three areas, using 88%, 84%, and 81% of their water, respectively. Moreover, the usage of water for domestic purposes in these three countries follows the same pattern, with 7%, 9%, and 7%, respectively.
On the other hand, water usage for agricultural purposes reaches its peak in South America, at approximately 71%. Meanwhile, North America and Europe have the same percentage of water used for agricultural purposes, with 39% and 32%, respectively. Europe, compared to the others, has the highest percentage of water used for industrial purposes, at 53%, while South America has the lowest, at 10%.
