The presented pie charts provide information about the proportion of individuals’ total expenditure in certain European country that was spent on various commodities and services namely, housing, food, clothing, travel and transport, entertainment and luxury goods, in two separate years: 1958 and 2008.
Overall, there are noticeable shifts over the given period. Categories for Housing and Food recorded the highest proportion, while other categories including travel/transport, entertainment and luxury goods showed relatively lower rates.
Turning to the details, starting with the highest proportion of people’s total spending, in the first years the figure for food contributed approximately 32% and by 2008, its proportion fell to 12%. The figure for housing also had the largest percentage, and in the last years, it increased starting at 22% to 32%.
Meanwhile, the remaining commodities and services recorded much lower percentage. Travel/transport, entertainment and luxury goods had almost similar percentage in 1958, at around 7% and 13%. However, by the last year, their percentage rose slightly reaching 17%.
