Overall, the number of people using Internet increases rapidly during the time period. The people from USA and Canada are the most active users of Internet worldwide. The percentage of Internet users from Africa is lowest.

The estimated number of Internet users worldwide increased rapidly without showing signs of decline. During 1996 approximately 26 million people around the world used Internet. During 1999 it reached 195 million users. The period during 1999 and 2000 showed a huge spike, making the estimated Internet users 451 million. In 2002 active users number reached its all-time top 580 million.

More than half of the Internet users worldwide were from America and Canada in 2003, accounting for a total of 53 percent of total users. Europe also contributed significantly, making it the second most region with more Internet users. 15 percent users were from the Asian Region. Africa and South America were just responsible for 1 percent and 6 percent of Internet users worldwide respectively.
