The data illustrates how the costs of copper, nikkel and zinc altered every month throughout the year of 2014.
Overall, nickel experienced the most significant changes, while the other metals witnessed somed fluctuations but remained comparatively stable during the period.
It is clear that nickel and copper saw the most sharp alterations at the beginning of the year with changes of 6 p.p. and 2 p.p. respectively, while the highest rise in the zinc prices was observed in February and constituted 3 p.p. Beginning with March, zinc and nickel followed the same fashion with their costs declining dramatically in June and the negative changes stabilising in July. This plateau continued until October when the figures dropped insignificantly and then grew drastically in Novemeber and became positive.
Copper stood out among the metals and did not follow the same trend as zinc and nickel. Before March, it was rising steadily. Later on, the metal experienced a decrease of approximately 0.5 p.p. The downward trend didn’t last long and was replaced with the upward one in July, after which remained stable at 1 p.p. until the beginning of autumn. This pattern aligns with the fashion observed in nickel and zinc prices. However, this is the only similarity between copper and its counterparts, since in October its prices grew slower.
