The line graph illustrates the number of parcels delivered by two major mail services, Federal Express and TNT Mail Services, from 1920 to 2000.
Overall, Federal Express delivered more parcels than TNT for the majority of the period, although TNT experienced a significant surge in deliveries in the latter half of the time frame, surpassing Federal Express toward the end.
In 1920, Federal Express began with 15,000 parcels delivered. This figure rose steadily, reaching approximately 24,000 parcels by 1940. The company experienced a sharp decline to around 13,000 parcels in 1950 but then saw a gradual increase over the following decades. By 1985, Federal Express deliveries peaked at 25,000 parcels. After a slight dip to 20,000 parcels in 1990, deliveries rose again, reaching 30,000 parcels by 2000.
TNT Mail Services, on the other hand, started with just over 5,000 parcels delivered in 1920. Its growth was relatively slow, with deliveries reaching around 12,000 parcels by 1960. From 1970, TNT saw a significant rise, surpassing 15,000 parcels. A slight drop occurred in 1985, when deliveries fell to about 10,000 parcels. However, from 1980 onward, TNT’s growth accelerated dramatically, culminating in a peak of nearly 25,000 parcels delivered by 2000, surpassing Federal Express in the final years.
