The graph shows how many parcels were delivered by the two major couriers over 80 years, between 1920 and 2000.
Overall, What stands out from the diagram is that TNT showed an upward trend in terms of the number of products delivered, while FedEx experienced the opposite pattern. In addition, FedEx initially led the shipping market, but in the second half of the period, it was surpassed by TNT.
As regards to FedEx mail service, the company first far exceeded TNT with 15000 parcels being delivered in 1920. Afterward, its number surged sharply, reaching a peak of nearly 25000 packages in 1940. Then, there was a significant plunge in 1950, and the figures hovered around 13000 packages until 1960. In the next period, after the slight increase from 1960 to 1980, the number remained stable at 18000 in 2000.
When we look at TNT’s data, the trend is the opposite. With the humble beginning of 5000 parcels in 1920, the figure rose gradually until 1960. At this point, the parcels of TNT were almost as many as FedEx’s. TNT’s number then leveled off around 10000, followed by a dramatic surge, escalating to 25000 delivered packages. This meant that TNT finally surpassed FedEx in the shipping market.
