The given diagram illustrates a water-filter assembly and its function. Overall, there are 2 main stages: filter unsafe water in a barrel and store in a different container.
Firstly, water is poured from the top of the barrel, filling half of it. Meanwhile, the bottom half contains three different layers of substance, namely sand, charcoal and gravel. These fine pellets are the important components, which helps purify water thoroughly. Moreover, a small tube is pinned to the lowest point of the container, used for sucking the filtered-water out of the first barrel before going on to the next one.
Regarding the second stage, purified water is going to travel into a storage drum. What’s special is that this container is placed lower than the other drum, creating a vacuum environment inside of the tube, which is the principle of sucking the water from the above barrel and keeping a stable flow to it. Unsafe water is now drinkable from the tap, possessing little risk of health harm.
