The diagram depicts the mechanism of converting contaminated water into drinkable water. Overall, the whole process is simplistic, exploiting rustic and readily available materials.
The filtering system comprises of two major components, which are a plastic barrel and a storage drum. Both of them are connected with a pipe running from the filter tant to the water storage, while the filter is positioned in a higher place than the other, allowing water to be transferred. Each container is covered with a lid for sanitary purposes.
Initially, raw water is poured into a plastic tube, then it gradually permeates the three layers of sand, charcoal, and gravel to remove the contaminant. In the next step, the water, which is at the bottom of the barrel, is led to the container tank, where purified water is stored. Finally, by opening the water tank tap, drinkable water is obtained and it is ready to be used.
