The charts show how the percentage of five genres of books sold by a particular bookseller in the years 1972, 1992 and 2012.
Overall, the figure for adult fiction and children’s fiction books increased, the reverse was true for other categories of books. Additionally, adult fiction genre was the largest percentage of books which was sold.
Focusing on the increases first, the number of adult fiction and children’s fiction categories were 20 % each, after which it increased slightly to 25% and 22% in 1992, respectively. In the final year, the figure for adult fiction almost doubled and reached 45%, while that for children’s fiction had a negligible growth and came to 25%.
In contrast, the percentage of biography, travel and other categories experienced a noticeable decline. The number of category of others was 25% in the first year and halved in 2012. Similarly, the number of biography books also reduced dramatically and reached 8% in the last year. Despite a small rise of travel books from 15% to 18%, the figure of that dropped considerably to 10% in 2012.
