The diagram illustrates the process by which a rain-shadow desert is formed.
Overall, the diagram consistы of 7 stages, starting with winds approaching the coast and ending with dry winds reaching inland areas. Moreover, it demonstrate a linear process, where the half of the stage occur in the windward side and others in the leeward side of the mountain.
The process began from the sea and coast mountain, that all the process through the mountains which is consists of thousands of kilometres. At the first, winds approaching the cost and these winds pushed upwards. After that moist air raising and cools, where they are forming a clounds in the windward side of the mountain. In the following stage, these formed clouds falls a rain at the peak of the mountain.
After passing over the leeward side of the mountain, the dry air continues towards the inland areas. In the final stage, dry winds reach inland regions, where a rain-shadow desert is formed.
