The maps illustrate how the town of Shakefield changed between 1995 and 2025. Overall, Shakefield underwent significant redevelopment during this 30-year period, becoming more built-up and less green, with several new facilities introduced while some original structures remained in place.
In 1995, most of Shakefield’s facilities were located on the left-hand side of the town. A rectangular road network provided access throughout the area. Along the southern coastline, there were sea-related facilities, and directly opposite them stood a fish market and a coffee shop. At the centre of the town, a public park surrounded a hotel. In the north-west, there was a sports area, and several housing blocks were accessible from the main road.
By 2025, the town had been extensively modernised, with the majority of new developments concentrated in the central area, making Shakefield more attractive to tourists. The central public garden was removed and replaced by holiday homes and additional hotels, along with a designated parking area. The housing zone in the north-west was expanded, and the former sports centre in this area was replaced by a restaurant. The original coffee shop gained direct access to the main road, and a new apartment building was added beside it. On the seafront, a yacht marina was constructed to upgrade the port facilities. Finally, the farmland in the north-east, which existed in 1995, was transformed into recreational sports facilities, including golf and tennis courts.
