The map illustrates the evolution of Shakefield town since 1995. Overall, the elimination of agricultural land, green space, sports venues, and a seafood market has created space for the introduction of a golf course, tennis course, vacation rentals, car park, eateries, cottages, and yachts during the period. Additionally, the remaining areas – residential blocks, hotel, and coffee shop – have stayed largely untouched, with only minor changes.
In 1995, the area used to boast a leafy environment, with farmland on the top-right boundary. To the bottom of the agricultural land was a city park neighboring a hotel, and a cafe could be spotted on the opposite side. The housing complexes and sports venues were situated on the other end of the road, with a fish market and morning fish boats located near the sea, making them largely accessible by water.
Since then, Shakefield has undergone significant makeovers. The removal of agricultural land made room for golf and tennis courses, and holiday homes have been built at the expense of removing the public park near the hotel, which has so far been enlarged. While the residential areas have been extended with newly-built complexes, the sports venues have been repurposed into restaurants. The cottages have emerged, resulting in the disappearance of the fish market; however, the coffee shop remained intact. Other alterations includes the removal of the morning fish boat and the introduction of yachts.
