The two given maps illustrate modifications of the Lakeside area between 2000 and 2009.
Overall, this area underwent extensive redevelopments, with commercial, educational and office facilities being constructed. Notably, the natural landscape was reduced in size to make way for an expansion of the industrial complex and there was a clear separation between this complex and the residential area by a winding river running from the southwest to the northeast.
Looking first at the western side of the map, the arts centre there was converted into a multi-screen cinema. To the south of it, the residential area was removed to make way for the construction of a new shopping centre. Further north, while the derelict warehouses were replaced by a new parking lot, the old town was demolished for the construction of offices and a university. Despite these noticeable alterations, the housing site positioned in the northwest and the school remained intact.
A number of other striking changes can also be observed in the rest of the Lakeside area, chief among which was the southeastward expansion of the industrial complex in the south. This complex was substantially extended at the expense of part of the woodland, occupying the former residential zone. Another alteration is the reduction in the size of the lake, thereby becoming a pond.
