The diagram illustrates how CO2 emmmisions from energy production in five countries namely US, China, Japan, and India in the ranking from 1985 to 2005.
Overall, serveral countries was chaged over the period. Especially, the US and China continuously swithched places at the top of the ranking. By contrast, the bottom position was alternately held by the other three nations.
At the beginning of the period, the US held the leading position in the rankings with 5.8 Gt, followed by China was 5.1 Gt, which occupied the second place. In 1995 and 2005, China quickly caught up the US took turns occupying the top spot was 8.6 Gt and 11.4 Gt, respectively.
Meanwhile, the remaining three countries consistenly occupied the lower positions in the rankings throughout the period. In 1985, Russia ranked third with 1.5 Gt, whereas Japan and India took the fourth and fifth positons, with figures of 1.2 Gt and 1.1 Gt, respectively. In 1995 and 2005, the rankings underwent significant changes with moved up to take a thirth was taken by India, was 1.8 Gt in 1995 and 3,3 Gt in 2005, while Russia and Japan maintained their positions at fourth and fifth place over two years.
