The process diagram illustrates the life cycle of the salmon.
Overall, this is a natural cyclic process, which consists of seven stages. It starts with producing eggs and ends with becoming spawning adult. The process repeats continuously after the final stage.
In the first stage of the process, salmon lay their eggs in fresh water. After that, these eggs hatch in around three weeks. Next, the alevins feed off yolk sack for several weeks. Then, in about 5 to 10 weeks alevins develop into fry, which can swim.
Subsequently, fries turn into parrs after several months and develop finger markings. Following this, around 1 to 3 years later parrs evolve into smolt and head out to sea. In the next stage of the process, smolts spend approximately 1 to 8 years at sea and become adults. Finally, the adult salmons develop into spawning adults, which lay eggs to continue thw cycle and die withing 2 weeks.
