The diagram below illustrates the lifecycle of the silkworm, It begins when the moult egg hatched and ends when an adult female moth layed eggs. The duration of the process took more than one month to end.
It is apparent that the first stage is symbolized by the hatching of the egg, which takes three to four days to be fully hatched. As can be seen in the diagram, the moult itself needs around twenty days until it becomes a ripe silkworm. Before transforming into a moth, it will wrap silk filament around its body to make a cocoon, the silkworm lives inside for another ten to twelve days. When the cocoon is ready, the silkworm will start to transform into a moth by growing wings and other features inside the wrap. Then, the emergence from the cocoon happened when the silkworm has fully transformed into an adult moth. After the moth is released, its mating season will begin. The transformed silkworms need to mate in order to reproduce. After mating, a female moth would be pregnant and would lay moult eggs afterwards. The lifecycle then would start from the beginning once again.
As illustrated in the diagram, the process of a moult transforming into a moth does not take a short amount of time. The minimum duration took approximately one month, and could be even longer. It is shown that the growing of a moult took the longest time, the moult needs to wait until it becomes a ripe silkworm before transforming.
