The supplied illustration demonstrates the lifecycle of a silkworm.
Overall, it can be seen that the lifecycle is a natural process and it contains 12 cyclical phases, beginning with mating of two silkworms and culminating with the birth of a new one from a cocoon.
In the beginning, process starts with two silkworms mating and then laying eggs. Hatching process begins within about 3/4 days, approximately 10/12 days after from the egg laying. Next it starts to moult. There are altogether 4 molts in silkworm’s life. First one takes two and a half to three days, second one lasts 3 to 4 days, third one moult 5 days, and final moulting process takes days between 6 and 8, before a ripe silkworm born.
Following this, cocoon is created by ripe silkworm through spinning silk filament.
In subsequent stage, the cocoon shell is cut to open it in around 10/12 days. Finally, a new silkworm born, by emergence from cocoon and the process starts over.
