The flow chart illustrates the stages taken place in manufacturing sugar from sugar cane.
Overall, the process essentially encompasses seven steps, starting with growing sugar canes and ending with drying and cooling processed sugar.
Initially, sugar canes are grown on the ground for a period of 12 to 18 months. Once the sugar canes are ready for harvest, they will be collected by either a mechanical reaper or manually by farmers. The following stage involves crushing sugar canes via a specialized crusher to collect the its juice. This juice is then purified with a limestone filter in order to get rid of the unwanted fibers. Afterwards, the juice will be poured into a heated pot and. then evaporates into a thick syrup. Subsequently, sugar crystals are separated from the syrup, which is called the stage of centrifuging. Eventually, these sugar crystals are transferred into a metal container to dry out and release heat, ready for packaging and sale.
