The diagram illustrates how olive oil is produced.
Overall, the production of olive oil consists of seven stages, beginning with harvesting olives and ending with storage and sale. Notably, there are two key separation points: first the removal of solid stones, and later the separation of oil from water.
At the initial stage, olives are picked from trees and then rinsed with cold water to remove dirt and impurities. Next, the cleaned olives are carried by a conveyor belt to a crushing machine, where they are smashed. This produces two outputs: olive stones, which are discarded, and olive paste, which continues to the next stage.
After that, the paste is placed into perforated bags. These bags are pressed to extract a liquid mixture containing both oil and water. In the following stage, this mixture is separated into its two components, with the oil collected and the water removed. Finally, the finished olive oil is stored and distributed for sale.
