The diagram illustrates how pineapples are grown on a farm and turned into different products.
Overall, the process can be divided into two main stages: the plantation of pineapples and the processing of the fruits, which are sorted and processed into drinks, canned food, and exports.
Taking a deeper look at the former stage, crowns are put in the ground with a distance of 26 centimeters between them, alongside a temperature of somewhere between 23 and 30 degrees Celsius. Seven months later, ethylene is sprayed all over the plants before they become mature ones, which are 2 kilograms in weight and 30 centimeters in height after a period of 5 months.
The process continues with the fully-grown fruits being washed thoroughly with water and then graded by size. The smallest and medium ones are cut, their tops removed, and their skins stripped, while the smallest are turned into juice with the help of extractors; the medium-sized fruits are sliced into small pieces and packed into cans. The biggest pineapples, on the other hand, are coated with a layer of wax and placed in a crate, ready to be shipped.
