The diagram shows how sugar is made from sugar cane. Overall, there are seven stages in the process, starting from growing the plants and ending with the final sugar product. The process includes steps in the field and steps in the factory.
First, the sugar canes are grown in the field for 12 to 18 months. After that, the canes are harvested. This can be done by hand or by using a big machine. The next step is crushing the sugar canes in a machine to get the juice.
After the juice is collected, it is purified by passing it through a limestone filter. Then, the juice is put into an evaporator. In this stage, the juice is heated until it becomes a thick syrup. After the evaporation, a centrifuge machine is used to separate the sugar crystals from the syrup. Finally, the sugar is dried and cooled in a large bin. After these steps, the sugar is ready to be used.
