The image depicts the building blocks of a neuron and how it functions.
There are five main components in a neuron cell. Every one of them is built in a certain way and has a special function.
The main cell body is called Soma. It is connected to two different parts, the Dendrites which is responsible for recieving messages from other cells, and the Axon, which passes information away from the cell body to different parts such as other neurons, muscles, or glands. The Myelin sheath covers the Axon of some nuerons helping speed up the nueral impulses. Finally, the Axon is connected to the Terminal buttons. this building block is used to form junctions with other cells to relay information.
In order for a neuron to connect with another one, an electrical signal called the action potential travels down the Axon and into the terminal buttons, which connects to the Dendrites of the neighboring cell.
