The diagram presents the stages involved in the lifespan of flowers and any plant that flowers. Overall, this is a cyclical process consisting of several main stages, beginning with the seeds taking water in and progressing through germination, growth, and reproduction before the seeds are dispersed to begin a new cycle.
At the first stage, seeds absorb water from their environment. Once this has occurred, the germination phase begins, which requires both water and warmth in order for the roots to start growing. As the plant continues to develop in the growth stage, its stem continuously grows upwards towards the light.
In the following stage, pollination occurs as insects transport polen between various plants. Afterwards the fertilization takes place when the fruit adn new seed began forming. Finally, seed dispersal occurs, during which the newly developed seeds are scattered away from the parent plant. These dispersed seeds are then in a position to absorb water, thereby completing the life cycle and allowing the same sequence to begin again.
