The diagram illustrates the sequence of stages involved to become eggs to adult dragonfly’s, starting from when two dragonfly mating and lay eggs and to become adult dragonfly the final stage.
Overall, the life cycle consists of four main stages: eggs, nymph, adult dragonfly, and mating. The process takes several years to complete, beginning in water and finishing in the air once the dragonfly becomes fully mature.
The cycle starts with a pair of dragonflies mating. The female then lays eggs in the water, where they remain for approximately two to five weeks. Once the eggs hatch, nymphs, also known as larvae, emerge and live underwater. This stage lasts considerably longer, typically between one and five years, during which the nymphs grow and molt several times.
Following the molting period, the nymphs undergo metamorphosis and develop wings, eventually emerging from the water as fully formed adult dragonflies. These adults continue the cycle by mating and laying eggs once again.
