The diagrams depict the life cycle of the silkworm and the stages required for the production of silk cloth.
Overall, there are four consecutive steps involved in the complete life cycle of silkworm, whereas to produce silk garments from the silkworms consists of five different steps.
In the first stage, the silkworm give eggs then, it takes upto 10 days for the eggs to form into silkworm larvas. These larvas feed on mulberry leaf to grow. After 4-6 weeks, larva produces silk thread around it’s body. This process continues for 3-6 days after which they completely transforms into a cocoon. It takes upto 16 days for the cocoon to completely grow and turn into a moth.
In the first step of production of silk cloth, the cocoons are selected after which they are boiled in the water for sometime. Next, the boiled cocoons are unwinded into a 300m to 900m thread. After unwinding, the threads are twisted and are soaked into the dye. Once the threads are dyed, they are sent for weaving into clothes. Once weaving is completed, the clothes are sent for the second coating of dye after which the clothes are ready for wearing.
