Overall, males and females had different reasons for choosing to work from home and, generally, men worked more hours from home.
Saving money was the top reason for both males and females (45% and 42% respectively). Approximately one-fourth of males put productivity as a reason, which was double the percentage of female response (24% and 11% respectively). Childcare was a more common reason for females, with almost a quarter mentioning it, in contrast to only 4% of males.
The table shows how many hours men and women worked from home for the year 2019. A large majority of men (81%) worked over 30 hours per week from home, contrasting with a minority of women (6%) doing similar hours. This pattern was reversed when examining the under-ten-hour category with nearly three quarters of women working this amount, compared to just 3% of men. The 10-to-30-hour range showed less pronounced differences.
