The two diagrams compare the current layout of the Australian water supply system with the proposed design for the future.

Overall, the main changes for this system involve the direction of how the three types of water, namely the pure water, storm water and waste water, flow and their eventual destination.

Currently, the dam stores pure water and is used by the households, shops, city and the factories. Yet, it is proposed that the water treatment plant will also be involved in providing pure water for the four mentioned places in Australia in the future.

Concerning the waste water discharged from the amenities in the city, it is now treated by the water treatment plant first before discharging into the river. However, the plan for the future is to maintain and store the treated water inside the treatment plant without polluting the river.

Eventually, the last change suggested is on the storm water. At present, the storm water landed on the facilities in the city will directly enter the river. In the future, it is hoped that the storm water will be treated as how the waste water is in the water treatment plant. The river will no longer be involved in receiving any types of water.
